Lucent gets $902 mln tax refund from IRS

NEW YORK, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Telecommunications network equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. <LU.N> has received a $902 million tax refund payment, including interest, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

The refund relates to an agreement it had with the tax authorities to carry back losses made in 2001 to previous years when it had made a profit, spokesman Bill Price said.

Lucent said the payment received included a refund of $816 million and interest of about $86 million.
